Obesity and promotions of HFSS products - A Briefing

Promotions encourage people to buy more junk food and other products and services. Together with advertising, promotions are the most pertinent form of marketing to young people.

The Scottish and UK Governments have indicated their concern, and have both undertaken consultations and action on restricting promotions of food and drink products that are high in fat, sugar and salt (HFSS). Regulation of promotions of HFSS products is urgently required, in order to protect children and adults from excess calories and create a consistent, sector-wide level playing field.
