National Partners

The Whole Systems Approach (WSA) programme of work was initiated by the Scottish Government, as a key part of Scotland’s Diet and Healthy Weight Delivery Plan, aiming to achieve the ambition of halving childhood obesity by 2030. The Plan committed to working with Early Adopters to develop and test a Whole Systems Approach to diet and healthy weight.

Eight local authorities were included as Early Adopters. All Early Adopters were supported by a National Co-ordinator, employed by Obesity Action Scotland, and a board of National Partners. The National Partners have played an instrumental role in successfully delivering the programme using the whole systems approach public health priorities.

The Governance Structure, proposed by the Scottish Government Diet and Healthy Weight Team, and Public Health Reform, held meetings with Obesity Action Scotland (OAS) and Public Health Scotland (PHS), which helped to build the structure as seen below.

The National Co-ordinator role works between the Early Adopter areas and the National Partners, providing support and learning opportunities, and reporting back to the National Partners.
