Our response to Scottish Government Call for Evidence on Review of National Outcomes

The Scottish Government are undertaking a review of the National Outcomes. This is a requirement within every five years, under the Community Empowerment Act (2015). The National Outcomes are laid out in the National Performance Framework. This is Scotland’s wellbeing framework, which sets out the type of Scotland we want to see, and measures progress towards the National Outcomes

In our response, we comment on each National Outcome of relevance to our work, outlining our views on the outcome, its vision, and associated indicators, and highlight things we feel are not covered sufficiently and which require a new or amended indicator. The National Outcomes and indicators set the direction of travel for Government policy over the next 5 years.

In particular, we have called for health to be added as a focus to many Outcomes where it is currently missing and have outlined where we would like to see changes to current Outcomes and indicators. We have also set out a range of proposed additional outcomes including - child healthy weight, maternal weight, and free school meals.

Throughout our response, we outline the importance of health as a central focus in the National Outcomes to deliver a society which prioritises, supports and enhances the physical and mental health wellbeing of all, and to achieve healthy weight for all.

The call for evidence closes on 12th June 2023.
