Our response to Scottish Government Consultation on a Human Rights Bill for Scotland

The Scottish Government is currently consulting on their proposed Human Rights Bill for Scotland

The aim of the Human Rights Bill is to incorporate international human rights standards already signed and ratified by the UK into domestic law in Scotland.

In our response we comment specifically on the right to food, right to health and right to a healthy environment, which are proposed to be incorporated as part of the Bill. We welcome that these rights are being incorporated but have concerns with the definitions used and the lack of clarity in relation to their incorporation. We disagree with the proposal to not include the right to food as part of the right to a healthy environment. Ensuring access to healthy and sustainable food is a core component of delivering a healthy environment and needs to be recognised as such.

The consultation closes on 5th October 2023.
