A Manifesto for the next Scottish Government - Scotland's Good Food Future

Today, on World Obesity Day, we are joining with the Scottish Obesity Alliance to outline clear actions for the next Scottish Government to create a healthier and fairer food environment for everyone.
Our manifesto highlights the rising prevalence of obesity in Scotland and the urgent need for systemic change. It calls for bold, population‑level measures to transform the food environment so that healthy choices become the easiest and most accessible option. With the burden of obesity falling disproportionately on our most deprived communities, we are clear that this is an issue of social justice.
Preventing obesity and reducing health inequalities requires coordinated action across government, public services and communities. By working together, Scotland can improve health outcomes and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live well.

Our three 'must haves' are:

  • Healthy children
  • Healthy people
  • Healthy places

Key actions include: free school meals for all children; restrict price promotions on unhealthy food and drinks; making healthy food more affordable and accessible; limit the concentration of fast-food outlets; holding retailers accountable addressing weight stigma and; expanding access to high-quality treatment services for people living with obesity.

At Obesity Action Scotland and the Scottish Obesity Alliance, we are committed to tackling obesity to improve health and wellbeing across the population to prevent and reduce obesity and associated non-communicable diseases.

Three must haves. One fairer, healthier Scotland.
