Impact of Pandemic Control Measures on Healthy Weight

On the 23rd March 2020, the UK Government announced the first lockdown in the UK, ordering people to stay at home. Over the 18 months which followed, these restrictions were eased and tightened, as the country battled with ongoing COVID-19 infections. This created a significant impact upon the lifestyles of individuals, families, businesses and society.

The COVID-19 control measures implemented on communities across the country has changed relationships with food and consumption patterns, and in some cases has exacerbated existing problems with diets and unhealthy eating and weight. The pandemic has highlighted the importance of driving a focus on improving population diet and weight, in order to build a healthy population in Scotland: one that is more prepared and more resilient to any potential future outbreak.

We have created reports and polling regarding the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on lifestyle (diet and physical activity) from the initial / first year of lockdown, to one year on from the first restrictions being implemented.
